My First Blog

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I’d be writing a blog.  A couple of years ago I didn’t even know what a blog was and now my goal is to write something every week.  Not sure how this will work out yet, so please bare with me.

I’ve finally set up my website for Taba Realty& Development and am now ready to hit the ground running at the start of the year.  It’s been quite an interesting journey getting to this point in my life.  I think I’ve always wanted to be my own boss and own my own company.  Growing up the only business that I was around was the Auto Parts Business (Taba Bros. Auto Parts – “It’ tough to top Taba”) and I know absolutely nothing about cars or parts.  There was no way that I was going to take over the family business.  So being the scholar that I am, I decided to become a PE major and teach so that I could get all those vacations off.  I taught for one year at Waimea High School and for 5 years at Waimea Canyon.  I made a lot of good friends and enjoyed my time with most of my students (some of whom I still keep in contact with on FaceBook).  But teaching just didn’t do it for me.  I was itching to do something else.   I left after 6 years with no clue as to what life had in store for me.

I started my post-teaching journey working in construction for a general contractor on the south shore of Kauai.  It was awesome.  I loved it.  Getting dirty and working outside all day.  Although, I quickly realized what a toll it took on your body.  So I decided that I would get my Real Estate License.  This is where my Real Estate Journey began.  I didn’t know what I would do with it, except that I saw a lot of ads in the paper that required a RE License so I thought what the heck I’ll give it a try.

My first job in Real Estate was with Kauai Realty doing Property Management and Sales, that led to a position with First American Title as an Escrow Office Manger.  From there I went to Kuku’ula Development as a Sales Executive and from Sales Executive I left to take a job as Business Development for Linthicum Custom Builders.

I’ve learned so much through all of these experiences and wouldn’t change a thing.  But this past summer the itch to start my own business started again.  I started contemplating on what I could do.  Should I open a restaurant, maybe a surf shop or maybe even a Landscaping company?  Then one night in bed I realized that the only thing I know is Real Estate and I know many different facets of it.  You know the term Jack of all Trades – Master of none.  Well that’s me.

So I decided to jump in with both feet and sink or swim in the Real Estate Industry.  My family has been super supportive.  Especially my wife, who had to go back to teaching so that my kids can eat.

I know this is a lot of information, but I thought I’d give you a rundown of everything that led me to this point.  Hope you enjoy my blog and come back everynow and again to see what’s new.  Merry Christmas.
